BOTOX®, Dysport® And Xeomin® Wrinkle Relaxer Treatments At Beautologie

As time passes, fine lines and wrinkles develop around the nose, eyes, and lips as part of the natural aging process and due to daily exposure to environmental factors. Fortunately, troublesome areas can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections at our Bakersfield, Fresno and Malibu practices. As a quick and highly-effective treatment alternative to facial cosmetic surgery procedures, BOTOX® injections performed at Beautologie Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center can temporarily diminish the appearance of crow's feet, dynamic wrinkles, frown lines, furrows, forehead wrinkles, and more for a youthful and revitalized appearance.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable substance made from botulinum toxin type A, a neuromuscular toxin. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly-diluted form of the toxin that has been proven to be safe and that was approved for use in cosmetic treatments by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002. BOTOX® injections are used to relax facial muscles. Because facial muscles cannot contract after treatment with BOTOX®, the injections temporarily smooth out and ease the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. BOTOX® injections are often used in conjunction with or in replacement of many facial cosmetic surgery treatments such as facelift, brow lift, and eyelid surgery.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure

During the BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure, Dr. Milan Shah determines where to administer the injections by asking the patient to contract his or her facial muscles. He then uses an extremely thin needle to inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that are causing the wrinkles and lines on the face. Anesthesia is usually not required since the procedure is quick and relatively pain free. Beautologie makes comfort and healing a priority with injectable treatments. Our Aesthetic Medicine Professionals offer a topical cream that numbs while promoting healing and reducing bruising. The entire BOTOX® cosmetic procedure takes less than an hour, and patients can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. Because of this, the treatment is usually considered a "lunchtime" procedure. Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic has become one of the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments on the market because of its many benefits. Many people choose to undergo BOTOX® injections because of their quick ability to subtract years off the appearance of an aging face. Individuals with dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions can eliminate creases around their eyes and mouth for up to four months with BOTOX® injections. In addition, BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce the appearance of permanent wrinkles on the forehead and in between the eyebrows. BOTOX® injections can also be used by individuals who desire more contour in their face. Patients with square-shaped faces who desire a more oval-shaped facial appearance can receive BOTOX® injections to reduce the size of their masseter, or chewing muscles. This results in a more curved cheek.

We also offer alternatives to BOTOX® injections at our Bakersfield, Fresno and Malibu practices, such as Restylane®, ArteFill®, and JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel treatments. Please contact Beautologie Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center for more information on these dermal fillers.

How does it work

Wrinkle relaxers are as group of products that help to soften "active wrinkles", which are the wrinkles that occur in your forehead or around your eyes when you clench those facial muscles. They work chemically by blocking specific nerve impulses to the muscles that cause these wrinkles. By blocking the nerve impulses, the muscles are unable to make a strong contraction, thus preventing the lines from deepening and becoming permanent wrinkles. It is important to note that we are not eliminating normal facial expression, just the deep lines that go along with the expressions that develop over time. The long term benefit of this is that the lines will not imprint permanently into the skin.

How long does it last

There are now three wrinkle relaxers approved to be sold in the United States: Dysport®, BOTOX®, and the newest Xeomin®. All of the wrinkle relaxers typically last approximately 3-4 months after the initial treatment if properly performed using non-diluted new product, and using the correct dosage in the administered areas. The good news is after repeated treatments, the muscles tend to stay relaxed for a longer period of time, resulting in a longer duration of effect. It is important to see a properly trained professional to make sure you are not getting a "cut-rate" treatment, where the product is diluted, "spread out" over a large area, or illegally imported. At Beautologie our professional injectors ensure the longest possible duration of product by utilizing a methodology that involves creating the optimal treatment by "area" you are looking to improve.

What is the difference between the different wrinkle relaxer products

The three products currently FDA approved in the US are Dysport®, BOTOX®, and the newest Xeomin®. They are actually very similar in their chemical makeup, but have slight alterations that effect how quickly the product takes effect and how they diffuse into the skin. All three products have a similar mechanism of action, duration of effect and safety profile. Most true professionals offer all three, and help the patient pick the product that best fits their needs. It is important to note that there are a whole separate group of products known as "fillers" that actually fill wrinkles with natural substrates. These are usually used to fill the lines that occur on the lower part of the face or add volume to the cheeks.

Common questions

Will I look unnatural?

This is a very common question. Many clients see people on TV that have some alteration that makes them look unnatural with "frozen faces" or brows that look unnaturally high. Usually this is the results of a treatment by an inexperienced injector who used the wrong dose or injected the wrong areas. Although it may look easy, a properly trained injector will tell you there is an art to placing the right dose in the right places. Every person's face is different, so a proper assessment of facial muscle anatomy is required, along with dose modifications based on the desired result. Many times, a treatment other then a wrinkle relaxer (such as a facelift that was pulled to tightly) causes the unnatural look, not the wrinkle relaxer treatment that was done concurrently. In reality, there are thousands of people walking among us that have a wrinkle relaxer or a filler performed professionally where one would not notice anything but a refreshed well rested look. At Beautologie, this is the more common result.

I heard BOTOX® is a "toxin", Is it dangerous to put a toxin in the body?

In reality, we are not actually injecting the bacteria that constantly produces the toxin into the muscles. The injection consists of a very specific component of the toxin that is a purified protein. BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® and Xeomin® are all injected in very small, precise quantities just to give you the relaxation of a specific wrinkle for a specific amount of time. Hundreds of thousands of successful procedures are performed daily around the world, so you should feel safe and comfortable that a wrinkle relaxer will not harm you in any way. Wrinkle relaxer treatments have been performed worldwide for several years with an excellent safety profile.
