Liposuction
When you want to achieve a slimmer figure, sometimes a healthy diet and exercise plan are not enough to get the slimmer results you are seeking. If you are within 25 pounds of your ideal body weight and have tried everything but still can't seem to get rid of stubborn fat pockets, liposuction may be a good way to attain the contouring you desire.
Quick Info
- Liposuction is a procedure performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery varies with the number of areas, but is usually 1-2 hours long.
- Liposuction is done through tiny incisions using long tubes called “cannulas” to remove fat under the skin.
- Cellulite is not treated with liposuction, although other treatments are available.
- Recovery takes only a few days, but you may be bruised for a couple of weeks. Swelling takes a few months to a year to completely resolve.
- After the procedure you will sometimes wear a special garment for 4-6 weeks.
- Many areas can be treated, including the neck, abdomen, chest, armpits, thighs, buttocks, back, and upper arms.
Liposuction
When you want to achieve a slimmer figure, sometimes a healthy diet and a good exercise plan are not enough to get the slimmer results you are seeking. If you are within 25 pounds of your ideal body weight and have tried everything but still can't seem to get rid of stubborn fat pockets, liposuction (also known as liposculpture) may be the right procedure for you. Liposuction can eliminate unwanted pockets of fat on the body that are resistant to diet and exercise, such as love handles and troublesome fat on the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, upper arms, chest, back, knees, flanks, and other areas. At Beautologie Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics, liposuction is one of the most common procedures performed by our surgeons. We use the most advanced techniques, including tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction, so patients can experience the safest procedure possible and the best results.
Before Liposuction
Individuals who are interested in liposuction surgery will meet with our plastic surgeons for an initial evaluation. During the consultation, our surgeons will discuss if the liposuction procedure would be right for you. It is important to note that patients with loose skin in the areas that they are seeking to treat may not be a candidate for liposuction, and may require a skin removal procedure instead. Our doctors also make sure patients maintain reasonable expectations and fully understand the limitations of the procedure. Patients should be prepared to discuss their medical history, as this can greatly influence the outcome of the surgery. Our surgeons will take the time to address any questions or concerns patients may have about the surgery.
Preparing for Liposuction Surgery
Patients should begin preparing for liposuction surgery at least two weeks before their scheduled procedure by refraining from taking any medications containing aspirin or other blood thinners. The night before liposuction surgery, patients should get plenty of rest and arrange for a friend to accompany them and drive them home after the procedure. You want to make sure you are at your goal weight, or close to it. If your Body Mass Index is over 35, we usually will recommend you lose weight prior to the surgery. Try to get into some good exercise and dietary habits before you do liposuction, so that you can continue these afterwards. It’s important to know that liposuction is NOT a weight loss procedure (you may only lose a few pounds on the scale), but is a contouring procedure to get rid of stubborn fat. Types of Liposuction: Tumescent and Ultrasonic Liposuction
At Beautologie, we have the ability to provide all kinds of liposuction procedures to our patients. We offer cutting-edge tumescent liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction techniques for the safest and most natural-looking results.
During the liposuction procedure, the surgeon marks the areas to be treated. Next, the surgeon creates several tiny incisions and injects a tumescent solution composed of saline (water), lidocaine (numbing medication) and epinephrine (stops bleeding) into the targeted areas. This solution makes the unwanted fat firm up so it is easier to work with, as well as limits the amount of blood lost during liposuction. This process ultimately reduces the amount of swelling, bruising, and skin irregularities patients experience after surgery.
Next, the surgeon may choose to use ultrasonic waves to convert the solid fat into a liquid, making removal of the far easier. The fat is then suctioned out using a thin vacuum tube called a cannula. When the operation is complete, the patient is fitted with a compression garment to help with recovery. The tiny incisions are closed with a small suture. The entire liposuction operation is performed under general anesthesia.
Our patients usually combine liposuction with other cosmetic surgery procedures we offer at our practice, including tummy tucks, breast reduction, and body lift surgery. Contact our practice today to schedule a consultation for liposuction surgery.
Renuvion
At Beautologie, we are proud users of Renuvion, otherwise known as "J-Plasma®" skin tightening. Renuvion is a complementary technology utilized with liposuction for those seeking optimal results.
Renuvion tightens and refreshes loose skin without the need for invasive surgery, extended downtime, or large surgical scars.
Using a combination of helium plasma and radio frequency (RF) energy, Renuvion quickly heats to the ideal temperature for tissue contraction, allowing you to achieve the best possible results. When combined with liposuction, one can expect not only fat reduction of the area but skin tightening as well.

Results from Tumescent Liposuction and Ultrasonic Liposuction
Liposuction surgery results in a slimmer, more contoured body appearance. It is also sometimes referred to as “liposculpture” because the surgeon is sculpting the body into a better shape. Although patients experience some downtime (3-5 days), it is kept to a minimum because of the advanced techniques utilized at our practice. Most patients feel very little discomfort after surgery and can return to work in a few days. Patients are prescribed medication to eliminate any discomfort. Patients can expect bruising during the first week and swelling for up to six months after liposuction surgery, with full results after this time. Because our surgeons use the latest liposuction techniques to give you some of the highest-quality liposuction results in Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton, any scars left from the procedure will be minimal and hidden from view, and they should fade in a few weeks. Patients are advised to keep all scheduled follow-up visits with their surgeon to ensure a successful healing process.

FAQ
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, and arms, to create a slimmer and more contoured appearance.
A good candidate for liposuction is someone who has excess fat deposits in specific areas of the body, has a stable weight, and is in good overall health. It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight-loss solution.
Liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The surgeon will make small incisions in the targeted area and insert a thin tube called a cannula to suction out excess fat.
The recovery process can vary depending on the individual and the extent of the procedure. Most patients can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the days following surgery. You will need to wear a compression garment for several weeks to help reduce swelling and promote healing.
Scarring from liposuction is typically minimal and will fade over time. The incisions are usually small and placed in inconspicuous areas.
It may take several weeks to several months to see the final results of liposuction. The area will initially appear swollen and bruised, but this will gradually improve over time. It is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine to maintain the results of liposuction.
The cost of liposuction varies depending on the extent of the procedure and the geographic location of the practice. In general, the cost can range from a few thousand to several thousand dollars. It is important to factor in the cost of anesthesia, facility fees, and follow-up care when considering the total cost of the procedure.
